Gaganyaan capsule will orbit the earth at 400 Km altitude for up to seven days. The capsule is to be launched on GSLV Mk III rocket in December 2021 but it is delayed due to pandemic and expected to be launched with 2 years.
India Space Agency ISRO is currently working on first manned space mission of Indian Human Spaceflight Program .The mission will be crewed orbital spacecraft named Gaganyaan being designed to carry three crews .The upgraded version of the spacecraft will have docking capability which planned for future .This mission is currently in development with the support Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).DRDO will provide support for critical human-centric system and technologies like space grade food, crew healthcare, parachutes for safe recovery module, etc.
The total cost required for this program over a period of seven years is US$1.77 billion out of which US$0.7 billion was needed for initial work of the aircraft. Government of India released US$0.5 billion in 2007-2008 during the eleventh five year plan.
India has successfully developed and tested boilerplate of gaganyaan capsule and launch abort system from launch pad. Now ISRO is focusing on the first orbital flight of gaganyaan capsule which will be uncrewed and planned for december 2021 and second uncrewed orbital flight in 2022 and first crewed mission in 2023 will carry 2-3 astronauts of India.
