Arjun: Main Battle Tank: Disastrous Tank

Arjun MBT MK2 Variant
Arjun is the third generation main battle tank of India built indigenously by Defence Research and Development Organisation of India. IT IS produced in three variants Mk1, Mk1A, Mk2.

Specifications:
  • Engine: Mk1 variant: MTU MB 838 Ka501 V10; 1400 horse power liquid cooled turbocharged diesel engine. Mk2 variant: V12; 1500 horse power liquid cooled turbocharged diesel engine ( under development).
  • Fuel Capacity: 1610 Litres.
  • Armours: Explosive Reactive Armour (ERA), Non-Energetic Reactive Armours (NERA), Kanchan Armour(Developed by India).
  • Primary Armament: 1×120mm rifled tank gun capable of Firing Laser Homing Anti Tank Missile (LAHAT), Highly Explosive Anti Tank(HEAT) warhead, Highly explosive Squash Head(HESH), Armour- Piercing fin-stabilised discarding Sabot (APFSDS) Kinetic Energy Penetrator.
  • LAHAT: LAHAT is Firing Laser Homing Anti Tank Missile which is Israeli based in origin. It is a gun launched missile capable and designed to beat both enemy armour and enemy combat helicopters.
  • New Tank Ammunition: Penetration-Cum-Blast (PCB) & Thermobaric (TB) is designed by DRDO's Laboratories ARDE & HEMRL. It is made to destroy the armour plates, concrete structures & fortifications.
  • Rate of Firing: 6-8 Rounds/minute
  • Secondary Armaments: 1× PKT 7.62×54 mm Co-Axial General Purpose Machine Gun( 3000 rounds), 1× NSVT 12.7 Caliber Heavy Machine Gun(1000 rounds), 12× smoke Grenades, can carry 39 rounds in blast proof Canisters.
  • Suspension System: Hydropneumatic which is a sensitive, Dynamic and high capacity Suspension System and offers superior ride quality on a variety of Surfaces.
  • Mass: Mk1 58.5 tonnes Mk1A & Mk2 68 tonnes.
  • Transmission: RENK Epicyclic Train Gearbox, 4 forward and 2 reverse gears.
  • Attainable Speed: 67 km/h maximum speed & Around 40km/h Cross Country Speed.
  • Crew: Commander, Gunner, Loader & Driver.
  • Advanced Systems: Automatic Fire Detection and suppression Technology to extinguish fire without human Involvement.

What is 'TOUR of DUTY' ?

After getting so many requests, I am writing this blog. Kindly consider that all of the information mentioned in this post is not official. TOUR of DUTY(ToD) is a proposal yet and no notification has been released by army yet. Indian army is considering this proposal to enlist civilians to join Indian Army on a voluntary basis for a period of 3 years. It is just like internship which includes 1 year of training and 3 years of service in Indian Army. Proposed model of ToD is to be implemented on a trial basis by releasing 100 vacancies for Officer's Post and 1000 vacancies for Soldier's Post. If successful, vacancies would be increased.
