India and Nepal Border Conflict: Nepal issued new map claiming areas under Indian territory as its own

Nepal's cabinet has given approval to a new map claiming three of areas under Indian territory namely Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura as the part of Nepal. This area is about 300 squares kilometers of mountainous lands and lies at the tri-junction of India, Nepal & China. Nepal's minister for land management, cooperatives and poverty alleviation, Padma Kumari Aryal released their map on Wednesday.

The current friction over border with Nepal began six months ago after India issued a fresh political map to show freshly bifurcated Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir as its Union Territories. Kathmandu had protested that Lipulekh and Kalapani are the parts of Nepal as per the Treaty of Sugauli of 1816 signed with East India Company.
This action of Nepal has escalated the tension across the border. Earlier last week, clashes between Chinese and Indian troops took place in Naku La in Sikkim and in Ladakh region. India is grappling with rise in COVID cases and a cyclone along its east coast also. The lack of clearly demarcated boundaries between countries continues despite several round of talks.

The recent dispute triggered on May 8, when Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Virtually inaugurated a newly built road of length 80 km connecting India's Dharchula to Tibetan autonomous region via Lipulekh pass which is the area under conflict.
India made this route to facilitate the trade and movement of Hindu Pilgrims to Holy Mansoravar lake present in China administered Tibet-region. On this hundreds of Nepalese people came in the streets opposing the India's action and burnt the effigy of PM of India. They said it is against the sovereignty of Nepal. On this Nepalese govt issued a official statement asking India to refrain from carrying out any type of activity inside the territory of Nepal. India clarified, that construction of road is made completely inside the territory of India and the two countries will soon discuss on the matter after the passing of COVID pandemic across the countries. Both sides are in the process of Scheduling Foreign Secretary talks which will be held once the dates are finalized between the two sides after the two societies and the two governments have successfully dealt with the challenge of COVID 19 Emergency.

After that Nepali govt summoned Indian Ambassador over the matter. In the parliament Nepalese PM KP Sharma said that India is bullying Nepal and they won't let go the issue of these areas. These areas are the parts of their land and these are not the disputed areas. India is creating un-necessary controversy by claiming it theirs as per his statement.
MEA spokesperson Anurag Srivastava has strongly condemned the action of Nepal and said,' The Govt of Nepal has released a revised official map of Nepal today that includes parts of Indian Territory . This unilateral act is not based on historical facts and evidences. This move is contrary bilateral understanding to resolve the issues through dialogues. He asserted that these type of artificial enlargement of territorial claims will not be accepted by India. He said that Nepal is well aware of the consistent position of India and asked Nepal Govt to refrain from making such unjustified cartographic assertions and respect sovereignty and territorial integrity of India.

He added," Nepalese leadership will create a positive atmosphere for diplomatic dialogue to resolve the boundary issues between the two countries."

Is China behind this??

As per statement made by assistant secretary of state from South Asian affairs of the US state Department, the current tension between India and China are a reminder that Chinese aggression is not always rhetorical.
COAS Gen. MM Naravane also stated that this can't be Nepal's move, there is someone behind this. He was indicating towards China clearly.

There may be one more reason behind this act of Nepal- Nepalese Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is facing a very unstable govt in the Nepal now so to secure his position and to win the trust of Nepalese people he might took this action.
